The holiday region of Ostallgäu is not just a walking and cycling region and it has much more than just traditional dress and castles to offer! The land of King Ludwig II has more than just breathtaking nature and culture.

Why not enjoy some summer sledging in Immenstadt or visit the Kaufbeuren art gallery? If the weather is bad, we recommend the wave pool in Oberammergau and the dance festival in Kaufbeuren from 12 to 23 July which we’re already looking forward to – here you can marvel at mediaeval life. Irsee Abbey is always worth a trip and plays host to numerous events for the Swabian summer of art, and the high rope course in Legoland Guenzburg is an adventure and challenge for many enthusiasts. Or, for something totally different, Bad Woerishofen is famous for its Kneipp baths. We are happy to help you experience something truly special every day.

If you feel so inclined you can fish, play golf, bathe in Lake Elbsee, go riding at countless stables nearby, go paragliding on the Tegelberg and visit historic castles and cultural monuments such as Neuschwanstein Castle and Linderhof Palace, all within 30 minutes of the Hanselhof. Here is just some of what you can do:

  • Simply lie on the meadow and relax ...
  • ... Cycle to Lake Elbsee on the beautiful cycle path, also suitable for small children
  • Lake Elbsee is a wonderful lake and is ideal for swimming and sailing. The kiosk in the bath house provides sufficient food and drink (coffee, beer, sausages etc.)
  • Another beautiful cycle path breaks off from the path to Lake Elbsee and heads to Marktoberdorf, approx. 9 km away
  • Fishing is best on the River Wertach and bathing in it is also a pleasure
  • The water ski lift at Lake Inselsee, roughly a 40-minute car journey away. Even just watching can be entertaining. Tuesday is for children; otherwise you can go and learn how to water ski, wakeboard or kneeboard. Cool!
  • The food in Sonthofen is delicious; the Hirschbraeu pub can be found in the centre of the town. Wooden benches, Bavarian specialities, meals served day and night and good with children! Good food at good value! The wood-fired oven pizzeria in Sonthofen, near the cinema, is also worthy of a recommendation. Good pizza!
  • Always bring along your swimming things on trips!
  • Neuschwanstein Castle is great. As it is often busy, it is best to book the tickets for the tour within the castle online and to arrive on time. Otherwise, you’ll have almost no chance of getting let in spontaneously. You can always view the castle from the outside and it’s also very interesting! Don’t forget to cross the gorge on the swing bridge. You will have a fantastic view of the castle and into the ravine.
  • Bathing in the Alpsee is wonderful. The water of the Alpsee is very clear, warm and beautiful.
  • Mopeds and quad bikes can be hired out at Kneifel – they have the perfect bike for every motorsports enthusiast.
  • Canyoning and rafting is best to do in Bihlerdorf, there is an easy beginner’s course there for children aged 12 and up. It’s a lot of fun but it can get quite cold.
  • Alpsee Bergwelt near Sonthofen, roughly 50 minutes away in the car, has a good dry sledge run and a small yet demanding climbing park that makes for a good experience. Children aged 8 and up are welcome.
